LOCAL BUSINESS TO BENEFIT FROM NEW PROGRAM
The Ponca City Development Authority, (PCDA) and Pioneer Technology Center have teamed up to provide free access to local businesses interested in bidding on new contracts and gaining new customers. Under the program, the Plan Room at Pioneer Tech will subscribe to high cost information services that list current requests for proposals and similar new business opportunities and provide this to area companies free of charge.
Business interested in pursuing new opportunities can access the Plan Room 24 hours a day, seven days a week to access the subscription services. In addition, the facility has the necessary hardware and software to allow businesses to print out plans and specifications in order to have the information necessary to prepare a competitive bid.
The information available will include numerous projects that may provide new business to the construction industry as well as to a variety of service providers, construction sub-contractors, and others with valuable business leads. The information to be provided is considered the industry standard allowing Ponca City area businesses with the same level of information at the same time as national companies.
According to Teresa Smith of Pioneer Tech, the benefits of the program reach far beyond the construction industry. "Bankers could utilize this as a way to contact potential business owners coming into the area. Personnel services could look at this as a way to supply workers for upcoming jobs. Others will simply use it for projects that are in the planning and bidding stages." PCDA Assistant Director Tim Burg echoed Smith's comments. "Everyone wins in this partnership whether you are a business owner, developer, general contractor, banker, staffing company or a member of the community."
The Plan Room had previously offered the services on a subscription basis to local companies. "Thanks to PCDA, businesses can now use the plan room without any financial risk," says Smith. Stan Kistler, PCDA Chairman and Ponca City Commissioner, says that the partnership is an example of the PCDA philosophy of attracting economic growth to the area by working with the area's existing businesses. "It's one thing to say that your area is business friendly, its quite another thing to prove it."
The Ponca City Development Authority will pay for the information subscriptions while Pioneer Tech will host the room and provide access to the printer, scanner, computer and the other necessary equipment which allows the businesses to take the information back to their company locations. The service will be free of charge to all business in Kay County during the trial period of 2004.
